While finishing a fine art degree at Fresno City College, I found a program in the college handbook about a profession at San Jose State called Graphic Design. Not only could you use your creativity to design logos, brochures, packaging, ads you could also specialize in illustration. And, unlike fine art, your chances of actually getting paid go way up. Nirvana! The courses were taught by the leading lights in the profession showing the way to use our creativity to advance ideas in powerful messages and images. We draw out distinctions from client competitors with a toolbox of marketing tactics using humor, irony, contrasts and an aesthetic execution. This is a great time to be in this world of technical wizardry, but success still depends on hitting the emotional center of the people you are trying to reach.
